In-Home Lesson Policies

Can I do a trial class?

  • We offer one trial class for each new student at 50% off of the regular lesson rate. You can book a trial class with us through our Book a Trial Class Page. â€‹

How are lessons scheduled?

  • Lessons are scheduled directly with your teacher according to our Studio Calendar. The calendar takes into account holidays including Thanksgiving, Winter Break (Christmas/New Years), Spring Break, and several one-day breaks, in alignment with the Lake Washington School District schedule. So we assume that there will be no lessons those weeks, and no need for make-up classes.

How does the billing work?

  • During the academic year (Sept-June), tuition is charged as equal monthly payments, regardless of how many lessons fall in a given month. You can see our Studio Calendar below. While some months have fewer than 4 lessons, others have 5, so over the course of the school year your payments will balance out. But paying the same amount each month makes billing and payment easier.

  • Our calendar is designed assuming that you will have lessons Sept-June. If you start in the middle of the school year, your first month's tuition amount will be pro-rated based on the number of lessons you have that month. After that, you will shift to the regular equal monthly payments schedule.

  • Summer quarter (end of June-end of August) is paid per lesson, since we are aware that many families are traveling during this time.

Can I just pay per lesson?

  • We have developed an academic year system to encourage consistent music lessons, which is highly beneficial for both student progress and teacher schedule management.

  • However, if you don't feel you can commit to consistent lessons, we also offer options to pay for individual lessons or a 4-lesson (easily 1 month) punch card. These are at a higher rate than if you are billed on our regular system. The rates for these are included below:

How do I pay for lessons?

  • Tuition is billed monthly via your chosen payment method on file. We will send you an invoice via Stripe to set up your payment, and for the academic year, it will ask you to set up recurring payments. We have a strong preference for ACH payments, but we also offer paying by credit card.

  • Payments are due on the 1st of each month to reserve your spot in the schedule.

  • If payment is still outstanding by the 15th of each month, a $25 flat late fee will be applied to your invoice. If payment is still outstanding by the end of that month, lessons will be paused until payment has been made.

Why is there a registration fee?

  • All of our families pay a $45 registration fee once per year per child. This covers updates in our materials for lessons and recital costs.

  • The registration fee paid covers the Academic period from July 1st to June 30th. All fees paid in the first half of the academic year (July 1st-February 29th), will expire on June 30th. If the registration fee is paid after March 1st, it will roll over to the next academic year as well.

Can I reschedule or cancel a lesson?

  • To be eligible for a make-up lesson, you must provide at least 24 hours’ notice to your teacher.

  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may not be eligible for a make-up, though exceptions may be made at the teacher’s discretion.

  • Each student on our regular registration is allowed up to 3 make-up/rescheduled lessons per school year. After that, you will no longer be offered a make-up class for lessons missed. If your lesson time no longer is a good fit for your schedule, discuss changing times with your teacher.

  • SNOW DAYS AND INCLEMENT WEATHER-- If there is inclement weather and it's unsafe for us to drive, your lesson will shift to the Zoom platform.  Your lesson will be at your normal time and with your normal teacher.  We encourage you to practice this setup just in case it's needed!  Ms. Sue will also record some music educational videos on snow days that you can have your child watch if you choose to NOT do your lesson with your teacher online.  We regret that due to our busy schedules, we cannot make up missed lessons on snow days if you choose to not do your lesson online.

Do you offer refunds for missed classes?

  • No, we do not offer refunds for missed lessons.

  • You may reschedule lessons according to the make-up policies above.

Can I change my regular lesson time?

  • Yes, but we ask that you coordinate any permanent schedule changes directly with your teacher as early as possible.

  • Schedule changes are subject to teacher availability.

What if I want to stop lessons?

  • We require 30 days’ written notice if you plan to discontinue lessons.

  • This gives our team time to close out your billing cycle and open the spot for another student.

Do you observe holidays or breaks?

  • Yes. Our Studio Calendar includes breaks for major holidays and seasonal recesses.

  • You will not be charged for scheduled breaks, and they do not count against your 12 lessons per quarter.

Why do you encourage consistent attendance?

  • Consistent lessons support steady progress and skill development.

  • Regular attendance also helps teachers manage full schedules and provide the best experience for all students.
